Split a table cell into multiple cells in Word

Did you know that you can split a single table cell into multiple cells?  For example, you can combine a table heading cell that spans multiple columns into multiple cells to create column headings.

  1. To split a single table cell into multiple cells:
  2. Click in the cell that you want to split
  3. From the Table menu, click the Split Cells option
  4. Select the number of columns or rows that you want to split the selected cell into
  5. Click OK
